Matsumura’s Passai

Background

Matsumura Sōkon’s Passai is the longer Shuri form associated with the royal martial tradition he guarded. It keeps passages that Itosu’s teaching version set aside, and it asks for a different timing. In this syllabus it is studied as its own kata, not as a variant of Itosu no Passai.
