History & Leadership
We, the Iso Bugeikan, teach traditional Okinawan karate and kobudō. We teach Shōrin-ryū, Shuri-te karate. Shōrin-ryū was founded in 1933 by Chibana Chōshin. It is a traditional karate passed down from Matsumura Sōkon to Itosu Ankō and Chibana Chōshin. In 1948, Chibana founded the Okinawa Shōrin-ryū Karatedō Association. That tradition has been passed down to the present day, and we also teach Shōrin-ryū.
In addition, we consider Ryūkyū kobudō as part of Okinawan karate, so we also teach bō and sai.
