Information

Miyagi Karate Dojo (宮城空手道場) is located in Gusukuma, Urasoe. Sensei Takeshi Miyagi, Hanshi 10th Dan, founded the dōjō and teaches Shōrin-ryū. The dōjō is part of the Okinawa Shōrin-ryū Karatedō Kyōkai (沖縄小林流空手道協会) founded by its first president, Master Chōshin Chibana, in 1948.

Mr. Miyagi began karate in April 1953 at the Shuri High School karate club, and early on studied with Shigeru Takara and Kansei Kinjō of Kūshin-ryū. In 1957 he began studying under Katsuya Miyahira, a senior disciple of Master Chōshin Chibana, second president of the OSKK, and Intangible Cultural Asset Holder in the area of karate and kobudō.

In March 2004, Katsuya Miyahira awarded him Hanshi 10th Dan. In addition to serving as the 4th President of the Okinawa Shōrin-ryū Karatedō Association, he has been the President and current Advisor of the Okinawa Prefecture Karatedō Federation, and Vice President of the Okinawa Traditional Karatedō Promotion Association. He has received many distinguished honors and awards for his contributions to karate and society including the Okinawa Prefecture Cultural Merit Award. Read more about Sensei Miyagi here.
