DOJO

Background

Kenai Shidokan teaches traditional Okinawan Shōrin-ryū Shidokan karate on the Kenai Peninsula in Soldotna, Alaska.

Sensei Jim Kass began practicing Shōrin-ryū karate in 1967, while serving in the military and living on Okinawa for almost two years. He traveled frequently to Lansing, Michigan, to train under Sensei Seikichi Iha from the time Iha Sensei first moved there.

On February 24, 2025, Sensei Allen Mayne announced that Sensei Jim Kass, Ray Purugganan, and the Alaska Kenai Dojo had been accepted into the Okinawa Shōrin-ryū Karate Kyokai (OSKK). The school joined under President Morinobu Maeshiro, with Vice Presidents Kiyoshi Tsuha and Oshiro Sensei.

Kenai Shidokan is part of the US Shidokan Takuma organization under Sensei Allen Mayne.

Following the passing of Sensei Jim Kass, Ray Purugganan now leads the dojo as head instructor.
