Background
Up until 2024, we were part of Sensei Seikichi Iha's Beikoku North American Shidokan organization — the official United States extension of the Okinawa Shorin-ryu Karate Kyokai, originally founded by Master Choshin Chibana and later passed to Master Katsuya Miyahira. Master Miyahira was the teacher of both Sensei Iha and Sensei Maeshiro, the current president of that organization in Okinawa.
Around the time of Sensei Iha's passing in 2024, the students within that organization left the true lineage and the OSKK. Over more than 30 years, we had built strong relationships with Sensei Maeshiro and others, and were accepted as his direct students. This is where Shidokan Takuma stands today, under the new official U.S. organization formed under Sensei Maeshiro.

The Squares
The squares in the logo represent a progression through five key concepts:
Balance
The starting point and foundation of everything, both in karate and in life.
Timing
You can have the best technique, but if it's too late, it will not work. It is the same in life: if you don't act on the opportunities that arise, they may pass you by.
Technique
If you apply strength improperly, it will be slow or ineffective, and reinforce bad habits.
Strength
Raw strength can sometimes mask bad technique, but as in life, inner strength properly developed builds the character for exponential growth.
Speed
Unless you first have balance, timing, technique, and strength at the right time, speed becomes flailing, ineffective, and especially tiring. In life, this looks like rushing through and burning out over things that aren't truly important.
Each of these steps continually builds upon the others. As one improves, it paves the way to improve the rest — none is ever truly mastered.
