Itosu no Passai
Background
Passai - Passai in the older Okinawan reading - means “to penetrate a fortress.” Itosu Ankō’s version is the one shaped for systematic teaching: compact, angular, and built on strong close-range entries. It is a different kata from Matsumura’s Passai and from the old-style Passai later on the same wall.
