Jion

Background

Jion takes its name from the temple Jion-ji. It is an upright kata of the Shuri curriculum, built on clear stances and straight technique, and it belongs to the family of temple-named forms. On this wall it sits with the advanced empty-hand kata, between Gojūshiho and Wanshū.
