Fukyūgata 1 & 2

Fukyūgata Ichi・Ni

Background

Fukyūgata means “promotional kata.” The two forms were composed in the early 1940s so beginners could learn karate in schools and public classes: the first by Nagamine Shōshin, the second by Miyagi Chōjun. Sensei Tsuha’s wall keeps both, under their Okinawan name, between the basic kata and Naihanchi.
