## About

Original Okinawan Karate is a traditional Shōrin-ryū dojo located in Kentwood (Grand Rapids), Michigan. We are the only school in the United States training directly under Hanshi Morinobu Maeshiro, 10th Dan and president of the World Shōrin-ryū Karatedo Association in Okinawa. Hanshi Maeshiro is a prefecture-designated Intangible Cultural Asset — the highest honor bestowed on a karate master by the Okinawa government.

Our lineage runs through Hanshi Seikichi Iha (10th Dan, Lansing MI) and ultimately to Grandmaster Katsuya Miyahira and the founders of Shōrin-ryū karate in Okinawa.
